To assess a hydraulic spin-on filter replacement, match the proposed element to the installed head and the machine duty. Start with the complete old element and head codes. Even if the thread and micron label match, you still need the filtration efficiency, bypass details and operating limits.

A supplier may offer a canister with the same dimensions as the old one. Without its drawing and performance data, there is still too little information to approve the substitution. Use a photograph or cross-reference to narrow the search, then check the candidate's specifications.

For the BLINCE SP Series Hydraulic Spin, request the exact variant's current drawing and approved data. The public listing has insufficient detail to verify its thread, seal, beta ratio, bypass setting, flow curve or approved circuit position against an installed part. Include the old part code in your inquiry so the comparison concerns a specific assembly.

Identify the circuit position and installed head

Record the installed filter's circuit position before searching for a replacement number. Donaldson distinguishes pressure filtration downstream of the pump from return filtration before the reservoir; some sensitive pressure applications use an arrangement without bypass. That makes location and architecture part of the replacement requirement. A low-pressure candidate should not enter a pressure-line review merely because its attachment appears to fit. See Donaldson's filter-location guidance.

Where the position is uncertain, send a marked photograph showing the head and connected lines, together with the relevant circuit drawing if available. Leave the position marked “unknown” until it is identified. The canister's location on the machine is not enough to determine its circuit duty.

Also decide what is being replaced: the element alone or the head and element together. MP Filtri's spin-on range includes different head arrangements, with and without bypass, and several media types. An element-only order therefore needs the installed head identity as well as the discarded canister's code. Changing the complete assembly creates additional interfaces to review.

Compare documents in the order that can stop the order

Use the following table beside the old and proposed part documents. “Unknown” means a question remains open; it does not mean the candidate has failed. An incompatible documented requirement, however, should be resolved before the purchase moves forward.

Review item

Evidence to compare

What changes the decision

Circuit duty

Installed position and machine requirement against the candidate's approved application

A candidate for a different duty needs a new technical review.

Head and attachment

Complete head code, element drawing, attachment thread and sealing dimensions

Similar appearance is insufficient; resolve each missing interface.

Filtration performance

Beta ratio at the same stated particle size and test basis

Equal micron labels do not establish equal efficiency.

Bypass arrangement (flow around the media)

Head and element documents showing valve location, setting or no-bypass construction

Preserve the machine's required arrangement; do not infer it from the canister.

Pressure limits

Working pressure, burst pressure and element collapse rating, each identified by type

One pressure number cannot stand in for all three.

Restriction in service

Candidate pressure-drop information at required flow and oil viscosity

A rating without the relevant duty conditions leaves restriction unresolved.

Fluid and seals

Exact fluid, temperature requirement and manufacturer compatibility approval

Media name or seal appearance does not establish compatibility.

If you can read the old element label but cannot find the head code, photograph the label, head and sealing face together. Have the supplier identify the assembly before using an online cross-reference to choose the replacement.

A “10 micron” match can conceal a large efficiency difference

At a specified particle size, divide the upstream particle count by the downstream count to obtain the beta ratio. Parker's Handbook of Hydraulic Filtration gives the corresponding efficiency calculation: (1 − 1/β) × 100%.

For an illustrative comparison, take β10(c) = 2 and β10(c) = 200 under the same test conditions. Use an upstream count of 20,000 particles at or above 10 µm(c), and equal sample volumes for both counts. These assumed figures are not BLINCE test results.

  • With β = 2: downstream count = 20,000 ÷ 2 = 10,000; efficiency = 50%.

  • With β = 200: downstream count = 20,000 ÷ 200 = 100; efficiency = 99.5%.

Calculated particle passage differs by 100 times at that size, without predicting machine cleanliness or service life. Request beta and test-basis evidence before accepting a “10 micron” match. A reference to ISO 16889 tells you the test method; replacement approval still requires the relevant performance results and machine requirements.

Read pressure and restriction as separate questions

Donaldson's W023 data sheet lists working pressure, static burst pressure and element collapse pressure separately. Working pressure concerns operation. Static burst is a strength-test figure, not an operating rating; collapse is the pressure difference the element can withstand under its specified test conditions. These distinctions do not establish SP ratings.

When a quotation says only “pressure rating,” ask which category it means and request the applicable model sheet. Comparing an old working-pressure requirement with a proposed burst value leaves the operating requirement unverified. Keep pressure type and units attached to every value in the comparison, including notes copied from a supplier email.

Check the proposed element and assembly's pressure-drop data at the required flow and oil viscosity, including cold operation where relevant. Donaldson's technical reference describes how increasing flow or viscosity raises restriction. An undersized filter may operate in bypass, while a larger filter adds cost that needs to be justified by the duty.

If the published curve uses a different viscosity, give the supplier your oil grade and operating temperature range to check against that model's data. Obtain any missing peak-flow or cold-viscosity information before choosing a larger size; an arbitrary size multiplier does not resolve those gaps.

Finish the interface and service review

The connection to the machine and the connection to the canister are separate checks. Donaldson's HBK05 data sheet distinguishes head port options from canister attachment threads and documents head-to-canister sealing and bypass options. Its service-parts section also identifies different gasket forms for different head interfaces. That is a reason to check the sealing face, not evidence that HBK05 and BLINCE SP parts interchange.

Obtain the proposed drawing before accepting a thread match. Include the sealing interface in the comparison and follow the exact machine manual and selected filter's installation instructions. Do not substitute a generic torque or number of turns for those instructions.

For fluid suitability, MP Filtri's compatibility table treats compatibility by fluid and filter family and calls for manufacturer confirmation where applications are special or uncertain. Identify the actual fluid and obtain approval for the proposed media and seals. Seal color is not that approval.

If the replacement request began with contamination or repeated filter restriction, keep that investigation open. The hydraulic contamination-control guide covers the wider system checks. A candidate comparison does not establish why the old element required replacement.

Send the smallest package that starts a useful review

Use the hydraulic filter category to find the relevant BLINCE product route, then send a replacement inquiry with:

  • Complete old element and head codes, plus installed circuit position.

  • Clear label, attachment-base and sealing-interface photographs.

  • Known flow, pressure requirements, fluid and temperature information; mark unknown fields explicitly.

BLINCE can review the candidate direction and identify missing compatibility evidence. Final replacement approval depends on the exact product documents and machine requirements; the initial inquiry does not establish fit.
